Lafayette Square is mid-city’s very own Halloween hub! Every year, kids from all over the surrounding neighborhoods gather in the Square to trick-or-treat. The Square’s residents get into the Halloween spirit as well; there are movies and music playing in front yards, outstanding and spooky house decorations, creative and elaborate costumes, and an overall air of celebration throughout Lafayette Square’s streets.
Because our neighborhood gets so many trick-or-treaters, it might be easy for one to get overwhelmed. Never fear! If you don’t want to pass out candy, or if you’ve run out after passing out candy earlier in the evening, then all you have to do is turn your porch and any decorative Halloween lights off. Then, kids and their parents will understand that your house is not passing out candy. But if you would like to participate, turn on those string lights and strobes and join in on the fun!
And as for safety during the festivities, the Lafayette Square Association holds your safety and your home’s as its priority interest. Every year, the Lafayette Square Association hires security which are posted at the ends of each block to ensure that nothing goes awry. That and the median is blocked off by caution tape (how spooky!) to keep kids from trodding onto its grass. Though Halloween in the Square may get busy, it always remains safe.
So put on your best costumes, get your favorite candy, and put on Michael Jackson’s Thriller, because Halloween is just 31 days away!
Hope everyone in the Square has a fantastic Halloween this year.
